The total population of the United States together with its outlying possessions was, by the census of 1930, 137,008,435. The population of continental United States was 122,775,046. In the outlying possessions, population was reported as follows: The District of Columbia, 486,869; Alaska, 59,278; Hawaii, 368,336; Puerto Rico, 1,543,913; Guam, 18,509; American Samoa, 10,055; Panama Canal Zone, 39,467; Virgin Islands, 22,012.
