Trapshooting in 1941 had a great increase in membership, with more than 900 new members enrolled.
The attendance at the Grand American in 1941 numbered 1,334 different shooters, 50 more than the record year of 1929. Altogether 853,475 targets were trapped, 18,000 more than in 1929 and over 120,000 more than in 1940.
Walter S. Beaver of Conshohocken, Pa., was high average winner with 3017 x 3050 for an average of .9891.
At the National Championship several new winners appeared. The event, which is held for the champions of each state, was won by Karl Maust of Columbus, Ohio, with a score of 100 x 100, after a shoot off with Walter Beaver, Pennsylvania, H. L. Cheek, Indiana, and Frank W. Smythe, Jr., Tennessee. A new event for Ladies' Champion of each state was won by Bunny Sanders of Keyser, W. Va., with a score of 98 x 100. The Senior race for contestants over seventy years of age was won by C. A. Young of Springfield, Ohio, with a score of 99 x 100. The Sub-Junior Championship for contestants under fifteen was won by Bobby Lee Stifal of Casey, Ill., with a score of 97 x 100. The Junior Championship for contestants under eighteen years of age was won by Ray Fienup of St. Louis, Mo., with 98 x 100. The Women's National Championship was won by Marie K. Grant of Fort Dodge, Iowa, with 97 x 100 after a shoot off with Mrs. Chas. A. Thomas of Dayton, Ohio, and Mrs. George Cameron of Houston, Texas.
The Amateur Clay Target Championship of North America at sixteen yards was won by Russell Elliott of Raytown, Mo., with the score of 199 x 200 after a shoot off with E. V. Ross of Millersport, Ohio. The Preliminary Handicap was won by Elmer Lucas of Peebles, Ohio, with 99 x 100 from eighteen yards. The Grand American was won by Walter Tulburt of Detroit, Mich., with 99 x 100 from eighteen yards, after a shoot off with Del Bundschuh of Fremont, Ohio. Vic Reinders of Waukesha, Wis., was high over all on the complete program with 874 x 900. Minnesota won the State Team Race with 984 x 1000. The Doubles Championship was won by Vic Reinders of Waukesha, Wis., with 96 x 100. The Professional Championship was won by C. B. Wells of Bridgeport, Conn., with 199 x 200. The Husband and Wife event was won by Dr. and Mrs. G. A. Roose of Salem, Ohio, with the combined scores of 194 x 200. The Father and Son event was won by W. F. J. and Ray Fienup of St. Louis, Mo., with 197 x 200.
