1941: Soccer

During the season of 1940-41, Soccer, the Fall to Spring kicking game, was played by 1,176 teams in almost 200 leagues and cup competitions throughout the country. The number of players participating approximated some 25,000 amateurs and 500 professionals.

National Amateur Championship:

At Fall River, Mass., May 25:

Chrysler S.C., Detroit, Mich., 1 goal.

National Junior Championship:

At Philadelphia, Pa., May 4:

Mercerville Boys' Club, Mercerville, N. J., 2 goals,

Kensington Recreation Club, Philadelphia, 1 goal.

American (Prof.) Soccer League: *Scots American S.C., Kearny, N. J. (*Champions for fifth successive season).

Lewis (Prof.) Cup: First German American S.C. Philadelphia, Pa.

Peel Challenge Cup: Viking Athletic Association, Chicago, Ill.

New York State Cup: German Hungarian F.C., Brooklyn, N. Y.

The Botafoga F.C. of Rio de Janeiro, national champions of Brazil, met a team selected from the clubs of the American Soccer League on March 23, at New York city, and were defeated by a score of 3 goals to 1.
